Yes Man

The other day I watched “Yes Man,” starring Jim Carrey as “Carl.” It’s a movie about a guy whose life is boring and predictable. One day he comes across an old friend who gives him a flier for a seminar about learning to say “yes.” After going to the seminar he realizes how much he has hated his life of avoidance and begins saying “yes” every time he’s asked to do something. As a result Carl learns to play guitar, speak Korean, fly a plane, etc.

He realizes how amazing life can be when you open your mind to new experiences, but his failure comes when he believes he must say yes to EVERYTHING, even the things he knows aren’t right (moving in with a new girlfriend).

In the end he learns that it’s okay to say no to the things you don’t want.

The whole point of this post is that I’ve been a “No Man” for awhile. In college I used to avoid going out because I wanted to play video games at home. I’m not entirely like Carl; I’ve been spontaneous, but I still feel like there’s more I should be doing.

This movie has made me aware of my potential, and as a result I will say yes more than no! Since finishing the movie, I’ve agreed to go fishing, go on a picnic, and to eat dinner with my girlfriend’s family. Meeting your boyfriend/girlfriend’s family in China is a huge step in a relationship because it means you are serious. Most couples don’t meet the other’s family until they are going to get married! As a side note, I’ve only been with her for a few weeks. :P

If you are a “NO MAN” or a “NO WOMAN,” see this movie and open your mind! I’m making a commitment to myself by creating a page called “YES!”
