Til the End
I had an interview a few days ago at 2am local time with the private training school in Wuhan, China. I wasn’t given an immediate answer because the recorded interview, along with the recommendation of the interviewer, had to be reviewed by his boss. He informed me that he didn’t see a reason why the job wasn’t mine. Despite this, 4 days have gone by without a single word from the school or the agency that I found the school through.
If the school tells me yes, I have a flight booked for June 8th. This gives me enough time to tie up lose ends. If the school says no, it’s back to the drawing board. As much as it’s been nice spending time with people, I really want this job because it seems like the best opportunity to get my foot in the door. Trust me, you’ll know if I get the job!
Update: I found out Sunday night that I got the job in Wuhan! They are in the process of mailing me the contract and the documents I need to apply for the visa! I also have 1 immunization shot left (Japanese encephalitis)! Also need to pick up the Chinese money I ordered, get the anti-malaria pills, and other things. So much to do in so little time!
The Fun of Immunizations
Even though they suck, you’d be making a terrible mistake if you didn’t immunize. Not to mention if you don’t, you won’t be allowed into the country. I got my first set of immunizations today.
- They were:
- Polio in my right thigh
- Japanese Encephalitis in my right arm
- Tetanus in my left thigh,
- Hepatitis A and B in my left arm
I have to get 2 more Hepatitis shots and 2 more Japanese Encephalitis shots (1 shot of each for the next 2 weeks). I also need to get 4 typhoid pills, which will last for 10 years and is a live virus. Lastly I need a years supply (one pill taken daily) of malarone (for malaria). My insurance wouldn’t cover it.. so I’m out about $800 once all is said and done.. not to mention my right arm hurts really bad right now.
The days go by so damn slow. 1 month and I’ll be in China, god-willing. Hopefully no more problems occur there.
My Dreams Realized
Well, this is it. I’m a graduate of the University of Florida. I’ve moved back to Miami for the last time. I received an email tonight laying out the full extent of the agreement from English First, the company which is making my dream come true. I am leaving in early June for a job in Shanghai that starts June 21st and ends August 24th. I am still searching for a year-contract in another city. I have the weirdest feeling about it all, that my life is actually finally beginning. That isn’t to say that the life I’ve lived so far hasn’t counted, but that this is the culmination of the life I’ve lived thus far. ‘twer it not for all those people with whom I’ve had the absolute pleasure to meet over my life, I would not be who I am and can not thank enough. I hope for your continued support! GO CHINA!!
The Day Before Graduation
The day is almost here. The day which frees me from all ties to the education system in America. The thing I’ve dreamed of for almost 22 years. But am I really ready? I say out loud I can’t wait to leave and do this or that, but deep down I’m going to miss it. I’m going to miss those amazing hugs from the Chabad crew, and the homey feel that this city gives me. I don’t have a choice. Life is about growing up, learning, and moving on. Of course I’ll never forget the people who’ve made me who I am, but I can’t promise I’ll always stay in touch. People change, life goes on. But I can try my damn hardest to make sure those bonds don’t fade like my love for those who’s made my life amazing this past year and years past. To my friends at UF and in America, I love you. Don’t you dare forget that.
